Dings to Dawn
Writing blogs posts in airports is becoming a thing ….
I was in my Uber, headed to the airport before sunrise, still shaking off the early morning fog. That’s when my phone started dinging.
One alert.
Then another.
Flight delayed.
My first thought?
I could have stayed in bed a little longer.
But instead of frustration, I chose to lean into the moment. I was already up, already dressed, already moving — so I stayed present.
And that’s when I noticed it.
Civil twilight — that hushed moment before sunrise when the sun is still below the horizon, but its light begins to gently color the sky. The stars fade, the horizon softens, and the day begins to stretch and stir. That quiet hour embraced me with its stillness, like a gentle whisper reminding me to breathe.
As I waited, I read the day’s devotional: God Is Here
“If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”
— Psalm 139:8
The closing question asked:
“What worries you most today? How does knowing the certainty of God’s presence help you?”
Right there in that unexpected pocket of time, I breathed. I prayed. I poured out what was on my heart. I joined the morning prayer line. I hugged a sister who was headed to another flight. I let the morning hold me.
My flight was delayed, but grace was right on time.
Sometimes what feels like disruption is actually an invitation — into stillness, into light, into God’s unwavering presence. Civil twilight reminded me: even in the in-between, God is already there, painting the sky.
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for meeting me in the delays and detours. When things don’t go as planned, remind me that You are already present — in the quiet light before dawn, in the unexpected pauses, in every breath. Help me to trust that my life is in Your hands and that grace will always find me, right on time.
Amen.
